How can we know which Chakra needs attention Courtesy of Unsplash, Jean-Philippe Delberghe Last week I explained why balanced chakras are the key to vitality and what it means when our chakras are in harmony. I also gave you a description of each chakra. The lower chakras, especially the radical, sacral and solar plexus, affect our well-being and our ability to relate to ourselves, our sense of self and the tangible world. The upper chakras, namely the throat, the third eye and the crown, influence how we connect with the outside world. The heart chakra brings both together, as it fosters our ability to lovingly connect with ourselves and others. When one or more chakras are out of balance, we can bring them back to center by engaging in activities, behaviors, practices, thoughts and intentions that allow energy to flow freely. To know what to do, it is first of all important to recognize which chakra needs attention. I will share how we might feel physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually when our chakras are out of balance. These are generalizations, but hopefully they can help raise awareness of what we are experiencing. Symptoms can arise from excessive expression of a chakra's energy and at other times from its expression. I share a little of what happens in both cases. No rain, no sleet, no dark mood Cracked Humanity Lam me in the retrogrades Auroville Maybe. Maybe not. We'll see. The first or root chakra stands for moderation and structure. It takes care of our material needs and our basic need for nourishment, movement, sleep, rest and calm. It represents how we focus on daily activities (Rattana, 2014). When the root chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows: Physically : our body is not strong and we feel uncomfortable. We have low energy and poor health. We may have bad lifestyle habits. We may also have leg mobility problems. Mentally : we are worried or stressed and we get carried away by our thoughts. We may try to control our environment and become possessive. Emotionally : We may feel numb and be in denial, or we may be on the other end of the spectrum feeling overly stressed and scared. We don't have much patience and we struggle to relax. Spiritually : We don't have a clear sense of belonging and can feel insecure, alone and / or isolated. We may feel disconnected and untrusted. The sacral chakra is synonymous with freedom, surrender, liberation, and the ability to embrace change. It is about connecting with ourselves and with others and interacting harmoniously with others. It forms the basis of our emotions (Rattana, 2014). When the sacral chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows: Physically : Our body can feel tight and confined, especially around our hips. We may have difficulties or imbalances with our reproductive organs and in women this can manifest itself in menstrual irregularities. We may also have low or heightened libido. Mentally : Mentally we may allow our thoughts and actions to be excessively influenced or affected by our emotions. We may have confusion, indecision, judgment or frustration. Emotionally : When we suppress emotions, we create blocks and withdraw. On the other hand, when we over-express our emotions, we push others away. This can lead to self-shame, sadness, or destitution. Spiritually : We feel creatively blocked. We may also feel rejected by others. We feel the need to withdraw, but secretly yearn to connect. We are afraid of sharing ourselves with others. The solar plexus represents the purpose of our life and attention to ourselves and our identity. It affects our ability to be true to ourselves and honor who we are. It allows us to take advantage of what life offers. Authorize our free will (Rattana, 2014). When the solar plexus chakra is out of balance, we may be affected as follows: Physically : we have poor digestion and our excretory organs have problems. Our bodies feel burned. We may have tension in the lower back and hips. Mentally : Our thoughts are scattered and disorganized. We may feel superior or inferior to others, or be inflexible or cheat on others. Emotionally : Our sense of worth is compromised, which can lead to bitterness, frustration, or anger. We may feel helpless, aggressive, overwhelmed or impulsive. Spiritually : We lack self-confidence and can deal with a victim or an aggressive approach. We look at external circumstances or people to blame for what happens to us and / or we rely on external circumstances or people to guide us. The heart chakra stands for expansion, space and light. It is the chakra of integration or unification, as it is where we are able to see that all life is interdependent (Rattana, 2014). When the heart chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows: Physically : We may have heart and circulation problems and may experience a general lack of nutrition or oxygen in our system. We may feel tight in the chest muscles or arms. Mentally : We may not care or feel compassion, and instead criticize or avoid others. We could behave passively-aggressively or tend to be obsessive. Emotionally : we subject our love to conditions. We may be afraid to connect with others or feel resentment towards others. Spiritually : We lack self-love and feel detached or perhaps alone and unsupported by the universe. We don't trust or have no faith. The throat chakra is synonymous with action and processes our truth and our reality, as well as feeling that of others. Expresses and projects all chakras, including our feelings and emotions from the sacral, solar and heart chakras; our consciousness from our solar plexus; our inner awareness from our third eye chakra; and our wisdom and inspiration from our third eye and crown chakra. The throat chakra is the transition between the physical and the non-physical. When the throat chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows: Physically : We have thyroid, respiratory or other lung problems. We may also have tension in the neck and shoulders. Mentally : We are unable to express ourselves clearly or hold back when communicating because we are afraid or uncomfortable. If we are over-balanced, we may not be able to stop talking and tend to over-share or dominate conversations. We don't listen well. Emotionally : We may feel unable to tell the truth or tell our truth out of fear or avoidance. Either we feel proud and proud (and overhare) or undeserving and shameful (and shared). Spiritually : We may believe our truth is not worth sharing or will not be well received. On the contrary, we can believe that others should listen to our truth, even when they don't. We may not care about others, listen to them or hear their truths. The third eye chakra is synonymous with awareness and manifestation. It is what allows us to look at our inner screen, those images that are reproduced in our mind. It is where we exhibit the power to visualize. It is also the seat of our psychic abilities (Rattana, 2014). When the third eye chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows: Physically : we are disconnected from what surrounds us. For example, our bodies may feel the need to hibernate when there is light and be outside when it is dark. We may also experience headaches or have problems with our senses. Mentally : We lead our lives from our intellect, without paying much attention to how we feel. We may need facts and figures to make decisions, instead of using our intuition. Emotionally : We deny our emotions or we can reject them. We are prone to worry and resent. Spiritually : We can deny that we are part of a larger universe and accept only the tangible. We may also get carried away by illusions and not be able to face our reality. The crown chakra represents our spiritual gifts. It is what allows us to surrender, trust and have gratitude in our life. It helps us release control and be confident that the universe and higher powers are taking care of us. It allows us to recognize that our divinity is not something external to us, but it is something within us and that the vastness of the universe is enclosed in our love and consciousness (Rattana, 2014). When the crown chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows: Physically : We feel that our bodies and souls are separate. We can see our body as the only part of our identity. Mentally : we have to check because we don't think there is a higher power. Emotionally : We may feel lost and desolate. We may also be depressed, apathetic and disconnected. Spiritually : We see nature as separate from us and we see ourselves and our world as simply physical. We do not recognize soul and spirit. We believe that faith and spirituality are concepts. Our chakras influence the way energy flows through our being. The flow of energy affects how we interpret what happens to us; how we think, react, behave and feel about anything; where we are stuck; and areas to which we can pay attention, to ensure that we operate freely, in a healthy and harmonious way. The problems I explained above are generalizations. It is best to seek professional help or advice to get an assessment of your chakras. There are many ways to support our chakras. We can incorporate aromatherapy, crystals, meditation, yoga postures, other mindfulness and movement practices, dietary changes and energy healing. I have presented some solutions here. Personally I prefer the use of aromatherapy because it works on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level, and therefore “matches” the effects of the chakras. Aromatherapy offers an effective and gentle way for us to bring harmony into our beings. Correcting or balancing our chakras can help us improve our body and health, our thoughts and interpretations, our feelings and emotions, and our ability to connect with ourselves and with others. Why balanced chakras are the key to vitality and what it means when our chakras are in harmony.

The first or root chakra stands for moderation and structure. It takes care of our material needs and our basic need for nourishment, movement, sleep, rest and calm. It represents how we focus on daily activities (Rattana, 2014). When the root chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows:

Physically : our body is not strong and we feel uncomfortable. We have low energy and poor health. We may have bad lifestyle habits. We may also have leg mobility problems.

Mentally : we are worried or stressed and we get carried away by our thoughts. We may try to control our environment and become possessive.

When the sacral chakra is out of balance, we can be affected as follows:

Physically : Our body can feel tight and confined, especially around our hips. We may have difficulties or imbalances with our reproductive organs and in women this can manifest itself in menstrual irregularities. We may also have low or heightened libido.
