The researcher said that many apps contained malware from which personal information and other data of the user was obtained.  A Wall Street Journal report states that when users installed such apps on their phones, they used to capture the device as well as the users' data.   It also includes information such as phone numbers and email addresses.  This malware code was discovered by Serge Egelman and Joel Reardon of AppCensus.  AppCensus checks the mobile application for user privacy and security.     Reardon said in his blog post that AppCensus first contacted Google about this flaw and informed the company about it in October last year.  These applications were not removed from the Play Store till March 25.   After this Google started an investigation on this and removed these apps from the Play Store.  Google said in its statement that all the apps on Google Play will have to run according to the company's policy and guidelines.  If any app breaches the company's standards, then necessary action will be taken on it.   According to the report, Muslim prayer apps like Al Moazin and Qibla Compass which were downloaded more than 10 million times have also been banned.  It has been said about these apps that they used to steal users' phone numbers, network information and IMEI.
